The thing you’re avoiding the most often holds your greatest opportunity.

“The thing you’re avoiding the most often holds your greatest opportunity.”
I can really relate to this quote.
From a young age, I had a deep passion for dance, especially contemporary dance. However, in my family, pursuing higher education and securing a degree was the expected path to a stable and successful career.
At 18, I became a certified ballet instructor—one of the proudest moments of my life. It wasn’t just my achievement; it was also my mother’s dream. Fulfilling that dream made me incredibly proud.
As much as I loved dancing, I knew I had to continue my studies, following in my brother’s footsteps. At one point, I considered pursuing performing arts, but my family presented me with another opportunity—to study Biomedical Science at a semi-private university. Being who I am, I accepted it. A part of me also wondered if I would truly succeed in a dance career. I worked hard, stayed determined, and eventually graduated.
But my passion for dance only grew stronger. During my university years, I felt an undeniable calling—through dance events, productions, and performances. The moment I finished my final exam, even before my graduation, I applied for a job in Selangor related to my field. At the same time, I enrolled in performing arts courses and dance classes. And that’s when everything truly began.
I worked during the day and, in the evenings, I would either take classes, teach, attend rehearsals, or perform at gigs. I had so much energy back then. I even drove to auditions, only to face disappointment. No matter how hard I tried, I felt like I would never be as good as the others. I still remember sitting in my car, crying, feeling shattered as if every hope I had was slipping away.
But the younger me didn’t let those moments define me. I didn’t give up. I kept training, kept learning—both in classes and on my own. I persevered.
Then one day, I decided to quit dance.
And then, someone important in my life persuaded me to keep going—to not give up on my passion.
So I gave myself another chance.
I kept going.
If that moment hadn’t happened, I would have never known that:
- I could win 🏆 in dance competitions.
- I could be named Best Dancer.
- I could choreograph winning pieces.
- I could be featured on social media and news platforms.
- I could be an honorary judge.
- I could be a dance studio owner.
And now, dance makes my heart sing. It gives my life purpose.
Life is truly beautiful.
