FUN FACT ABOUT HABITSΒ
Some of your habits happen before you even think about them.
Ever picked up your phone and suddenly realised 10 minutes have passed? You didn’t consciously decide to scroll for 10 minutes. Your brain recognised a familiar cue and the behaviour happened almost automatically.
Repeated behaviours can become more automatic when they’re connected to familiar situations. Think about getting into the car and automatically putting on your seatbelt or seeing the coffee machine and immediately making coffee.
The interesting part? You can use the same system to build better habits.
Instead of relying on motivation, create a cue for the behaviour you want.
Finish your workout β stretch for 5 minutes.
Finish lunch β walk for 10 minutes.
Sit at your desk β drink a glass of water.
You don’t always need more motivation. Sometimes you just need a better cue.
Create the cue. Keep the action simple. Repeat it regularly.
