There’s a Calmness to a Life Lived in Gratitude, a Quiet Joy.

When I was in my 20s, even though I was raised Buddhist and considered myself more of a free thinker, I was truly introduced to the deeper teachings of gratitude through Buddhism. It all started with a simple Penang trip my friends organised after our semester exams — a trip that, in hindsight, shaped so much of how I live today.

Some of the friends on that trip were very religious, and although I wasn’t, I’ve always loved absorbing values and wisdom from different beliefs. That trip sparked my interest in reading religious books and reflecting on life’s deeper meaning. And to this day, I’m so thankful for it. It also brings back memories of Phang Ling — my deskmate, coursemate, and dear friend. I think of you often and miss our conversations.

Gratitude was something my mom planted in me early on. She’d remind me that while we might not have everything, there are so many people who face much tougher battles — those with disabilities, those born into hardship, those fighting illnesses. And though her words stayed with me, it wasn’t until I truly practiced gratitude in my own daily life that I began to feel its calm, quiet joy.

I believe in the Law of Attraction. The more grateful you are, the more abundance you attract — in love, opportunities, wealth, and peace. It’s not about pretending everything’s perfect, but about recognising the good that’s already here and making space for more.

How do you practice it?
It’s not just about listing what you’re grateful for — it’s about really feeling it. Express that gratitude, soak in the warmth it brings, and let it shift your mindset.

Today, I am grateful for the endless opportunities that come my way.
I am grateful for the love I am surrounded by.
I am grateful for the wealth in my life — in every sense of the word.

Gratitude changes everything.
